Step 1

Understanding ReGloss

Before you begin your ReGloss Application, you'll want to understand the basics of the product and process. In this video, on YouTube, you'll get an overveiw of ReGloss and how to understand the vehicle you will be working on.

Step 2

Wet Sand For ReGloss

Wet sanding is the foundation of a flawless ReGloss application. This step isn’t about removing paint (don't do that!). It’s about leveling the surface, knocking down oxidation, swirls, scratches and creating the ideal profile for ReGloss to chemically bond, permanently.

Using 3000 or 5000 grit sanding discs, the goal is to lightly refine the factory finish, removing cosmetic imperfections like scuffs, faded clear, and light scratches without cutting too deep. Even sanding creates a uniform surface that allows the product to lay down smooth and clean.

After sanding, the surface should have a soft, even matte appearance with no shiny spots left behind. These shiny areas indicate spots where the surface hasn’t been fully prepped. Taking the time to sand properly sets the entire job up for success and ensures maximum durability once ReGloss is applied.

Step 3

Degrease For ReGloss

Once the surface has been wet sanded, degreasing is the crucial next step to ensure nothing interferes with ReGloss bonding to the factory finish. Sanding leaves behind fine residue, oils, and microscopic particles that must be completely removed before moving forward.

Using a degreasing soap, a spray bottle, and clean microfiber towels, the surface is gently but thoroughly wiped down to flush out every trace of contamination. This includes edges, creases, and any areas where residue can settle.

This step isn’t about speed — it’s about thoroughness. A clean surface ensures that when ReGloss is applied, it bonds directly to the paint, not to leftover contaminants. The cleaner the surface, the stronger the bond and the better the final finish will be.

Step 4

Taping For ReGloss

Before applying ReGloss, taping is an essential step to protect all the non-painted areas surrounding your work zone. This includes rubber trim, plastic moldings, chrome, lights, badges, and emblems. A clean tape line ensures sharp edges and saves time on post-application cleanup.

Using a high-quality automotive tape prevents bleeding, lifting, or product seepage — issues that can compromise the finish and waste valuable time. Careful taping around edges and tight contours also keeps the application controlled and professional.

This step might seem small, but it makes a big difference in the end result. Proper taping not only protects the vehicle but gives your ReGloss job a crisp, factory-quality finish and speeds up your workflow.

Step 5

The Chemical Bath

The chemical bath is one of the most critical steps in the entire ReGloss process. This stage ensures the surface is completely free of hidden contaminants before product application. Even the smallest trace of oil, dust, or residue can compromise the bond and final finish.

A 90:10 or 95:5 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and acetone is used to flush out dirt, oils, and debris from every inch of the surface — especially around emblems, trim edges, door seams, and body lines where contaminants like to hide. This creates the ultra-clean surface needed for a strong chemical bond.

Working methodically with a clean applicator or towel, the goal is to leave the surface surgically clean — no haze, no streaks, no residue. A proper chemical bath is what separates an average job from a flawless one and sets the stage for a long-lasting ReGloss finish.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

The key point in preparation is to get the vehicle as clean and decontaminated as possible. You want your paint/clearcoat surface as clean and dull as possible. Like many things in life, the more time you take to prep your vehicle properly, the better results you will get during and after application. Spend the time to do things thoroughly and your vehicle will thank you. Visit our YouTube channel and watch multiple videos on how we properly prepare a vehicle for ReGloss application and you will have the knowledge and confidence to do this correctly!

Step 6

Preparing For ReGloss Application

Preparation is everything when it comes to applying ReGloss. Before touching the vehicle, it’s crucial to set up your workspace for success. This means having proper lighting, good ventilation, and a clean, dust-free environment. A well-organized space allows you to focus on technique instead of fighting distractions or contamination.

Next, gather all the tools and materials you’ll need. This includes your folded applicator, tack cloth, and the mixed ReGloss product itself. Having everything within reach keeps your workflow smooth and prevents unnecessary problems during application.

Finally, think through your application strategy. Know which panels you’ll tackle first, how you’ll move around the vehicle, and how to avoid touching freshly coated areas. Understanding your body positioning and panel sequence will make the actual application cleaner, faster, and more controlled.

Step 7

Basic Application Technique

Mastering your movement and hand-control sets the foundation for a flawless finish. In this phase, you’ll learn how to hold the applicator with the proper angle and pressure, move your body fluidly, and maintain smooth, overlapping strokes. Good posture and steady rhythm will help you avoid drag lines, uneven coverage, or product buildup.

Next, focus on how your hand motions should flow along the vehicle’s panels — following body lines, working in logical sections, and avoiding contact with panels you’ve already coated. This ensures consistency, keeps the coating thickness even, and helps the finish look professional and seamless.

Finally, efficient execution matters: start the panel in the right place, maintain your speed and stroke width, and finish cleanly. These techniques may seem subtle but they’re what separate a standard result from an exceptional one — and they save time, reduce rework, and elevate the overall outcome.

Step 8

Application On A Hood

Applying ReGloss to the hood is a mission-critical panel—it’s one of the most visible surfaces and it often shows every single imperfection. Before you touch the applicator, plan your start point (typically the upper center of the hood) and decide your sequencing so you maintain clean overlaps and consistent thickness across the entire surface.

As you work, follow the body lines—let the natural contours guide your strokes. This improves flow, gives you even coverage, and avoids uneven buildup along edges. Make controlled, overlapping passes from top to bottom, finishing on the lower edge of the hood so the coating levels itself properly and you avoid pooling or drag marks.

Finally, keep your workspace clean and use a tack-cloth just before starting the hood to remove any residual dust. Once you begin, avoid pausing mid-panel or retracing over partially cured sections—consistency in speed, pressure, and motion is what delivers that professional, mirror-like finish.

Step 9

Application On A Roof

Applying ReGloss to the roof requires thoughtful strategy because of its size, exposure, and potential obstacles like antennas, racks, or moon roofs. Start by planning your workflow, from end to end and one side to the other. To keep your movement efficient and avoid stepping on freshly coated areas, position yourself so you can reach the edges cleanly, and maintain comfortable body posture maintain consistency.

Follow the natural body lines and panel transitions so your strokes flow smoothly, producing uniform coverage across the entire surface. Avoid retracing over areas that are already coated and be mindful of product build-up around panel joints or trim pieces.

Finally, keep your application speed, pressure, and overlap consistent from one side to the other. Finish cleanly at the edge of the panel so the coating blends into surrounding surfaces.

Step 10

Application On A Tailgate Or Trunk

Applying ReGloss to the tailgate involves careful consideration of its unique features such as emblems, license plate areas, differing sections, making this panel both highly visible and technically demanding. Start by planning your approach so you cover each section with a sound strategy.

Follow the body lines and maintain smooth, consistent passes. Pay special attention around license-plate cutouts and the lower edge of the gate, as these spots are prone to uneven product build-up or pooling.

Finish by ensuring edges blend with adjacent panels, and avoid touching any freshly coated surfaces. A well-done tailgate application demonstrates craftsmanship and ensures the finish looks flawless where the vehicle’s rear meets the world.

Step 11

Doors & Quarter Panel Application

Working on the doors and quarter-panels means mastering terrain with handles, trim pieces, adjacent panels and body lines guiding the flow. Begin by planning your zone and route so you won’t coat yourself into a corner or accidentally touch freshly finished surfaces. Position your body to keep comfortable control, and maintain consistent speed and pressure across the long spans and tight contours.

Around door handles, mirrors and the seam where door meets quarter panel, use controlled circles, as seen in the tutorial. Stay mindful of tape edges and trim pieces so the coating stays clean, crisp and separated.

Finish by double-checking that no borders have excess product, that overlaps are consistent and no freshly coated panel is impacted as you move to the next. When doors and quarter panels are done correctly, the vehicle’s side profile looks seamless, professional and durable.

Step 12

Curing ReGloss & Removing ReGloss

In this final phase of the ReGloss process, we focus on locking in the quality finish and wrapping the job up professionally. Proper curing ensures the coating develops full hardness, clarity and resistance. Everything you set up in the prep and application pays off here.

We cover how to remove ReGloss off a panel if you have a mistake. This should be done right away when you see a major issue on a panel. You have up to 30 minutes to remove ReGloss on a panel, if needed.

Finally, the clean-up stage: removing masking tape, disposing of used applicators, cleaning towels, and carefully removing ReGloss that may have ended up on areas that it wasn't meant too.
