Before You Start

  • Do NOT apply ReGloss in direct sunlight or on panels hot to the touch. Work indoors or in shade & ensure panel is not holding heat from sun exposure.
  • Remove dead or failing clearcoat before sanding for best results. Use scuff pads, metal or plastic blades, compressed air, and/or a pressure washer as needed.
  • Wait 24 hours before applying additional coats. For best results, allow 72 hours between coats.
  • ReGloss can be polished after 12 hours. Use finishing compound and soft pads only.
  • For maximum longevity on sun-damaged or degraded panels, apply 2+ total coats within the first 3 months. ReGloss kits include extra product for this purpose.
  • If a mistake is found on a panel, ReGloss should be removed within 30 minutes to redo the panel.
  • Minimize exposure to wind, fans, or moving air during application to prevent debris contamination.
  • ReGloss CAN be applied outdoors in the shade. Avoid windy or dusty conditions whenever possible.
  • Avoid water for 24 hours after application.
  • You can drive vehicle 1 hour after application, weather permitting.
  • ReGloss is not designed spray guns and cannot be atomized. Hand application only.

Step 1

Understanding ReGloss

Before you begin your ReGloss Application, you'll want to understand the basics of the product and process. In this video you'll get an overview of ReGloss and how to understand the vehicle you will be working on.

Step 2

Wet Sand For ReGloss

Wet sanding is the foundation of a successful ReGloss application. This step is not about removing clearcoat. It’s about leveling the surface, reducing oxidation, swirls, and scratches, and creating the proper profile (scuff) for ReGloss to chemically bond. Using 3000–5000 grit, or a gray scuff pad, the goal is to create a uniform, matte finish with no shiny areas left behind. Proper sanding ensures smooth application, strong adhesion, and long-term durability. Watch this video for more detail.

Step 3

Degrease For ReGloss

After wet sanding, degreasing is essential to remove residue, oils, and fine particles that can interfere with bonding. Thoroughly wipe down all surfaces, including edges and crevices, to ensure nothing is left behind. A properly cleaned surface allows ReGloss to bond directly to the paint for maximum strength, clarity, and durability. Watch the video for more detail.

Step 4

Taping For ReGloss

Before applying ReGloss, tape off all non-painted surfaces adjacent to the panels you're applying. This includes rubber trim, moldings, lights, and emblems. Clean, precise taping protects surrounding areas, creates sharp edges, and reduces cleanup time. This simple step helps deliver a controlled application and a crisp, factory-quality result. Step 5

The Chemical Bath

The chemical bath is a critical step that ensures the surface is completely free of hidden contaminants before application. Using a 90:10 or 95:5 mix of isopropyl alcohol and acetone, thoroughly flush oils, residue, and debris. Focus thoroughly on areas around panel edges, door handles, and emblems lines. The surface must be left clean, contamination-free, and residue-free to ensure proper bonding and long-term results. Watch the video for more detail.

Preparation Sets the Outcome

The quality of your result is determined during preparation. For best results, remove as much dead or failing clearcoat as possible, thoroughly scuff all surfaces, and clean the entire vehicle carefully paying close attention to cracks and crevices where contamination can hide. Follow The ReGloss Method™ by watching our videos before beginning.

You’re not doing this alone. If technical questions come up during your project, our team is available anytime via live chat or the contact form.

Step 6

Preparing For ReGloss Application

Proper setup is key to a successful ReGloss application. Ensure good lighting, ventilation, and a clean, dust-free workspace, then have all tools and materials ready before you begin. Plan your panel order and movement in advance to keep the process controlled, efficient, and contamination-free. Use a mask and gloves for the duration of the process. Watch the video for more detail.

Step 7

Basic Application Technique

Proper movement, hand control and applicator control are essential for a smooth, even finish. Maintain steady pressure, overlapping passes, and fluid motion while following body lines and working side-to-side or top-to-bottom. Controlled technique prevents streaks & missed spots, reduces drips, and delivers a clean, professional result. Always keep your applicator loaded after every 1-2 passes to avoid thin application lines. Watch the video for more detail.

Step 8

Application On A Hood

The hood is a high-visibility panel and requires careful planning. Pick a starting side, follow body lines, and apply with controlled, overlapping passes for even thickness and flow. Use a tack cloth before starting, maintain consistent speed and pressure, and avoid stopping or retracing mid-panel to achieve a clean, mirror-like finish. Watch the video for more detail.

Step 9

Application On A Roof

The roof requires thoughtful pre-planning due to its size and obstacles. Position yourself to reach edges comfortably, take your time on each pass, and work methodically side to side. Practice the panel free hand before beginning to determine how far you can reach, best footing placement, and when you will move to the other side to finish the second half. Take your time to develop a plan before you even begin Maintain consistent speed, reloaded your applicator after every pass, and avoid retracing to ensure a uniform, glossy finish. Step 10

Application On A Tailgate Or Trunk

The tailgate requires careful planning due to emblems, odd shapes, and multiple sections. Work in smooth, consistent passes while following body lines, and watch for buildup around edges and license plate areas. Blend cleanly into adjacent panels and avoid contact with freshly coated surfaces for a flawless result. Watch the video for more detail.

Step 11

Doors & Quarter Panel Application

Doors and quarter panels require planning, particularly around the handles, trim, and possible emblems. Practice drawing a circle around the door handle before you begin to feel the hand movement. Maintain consistent speed and applicator control, using enough product for to ensure thick lines that will self-level but watching carefully for drips.. Examine every pass on side panels before moving on to ensure there are no drips. Watch the video for more detail.
